RISE AGAINST HUNGER UPDATES (Saturday, April 13th from 9 AM-2 PM in the TSHS Main Gym)
Please do not forget we need EVERYONE to assist in our Rise Against Hunger campaign. Sadly, we have not had a massive response from our Global Studies Community. Remember, in addition to assisting with this worthy cause, you will earn Global Service Hours for participating. To better prepare for the event, we need everyone who plans on helping to register ASAP. To sign up as a volunteer, please visit the following site and click register! https://rah.my.salesforce-sites.com/events/homepage?id=7018c000001DenAAAS
If you plan on donating, it is not too late. Any financial contribution, no matter how small, will make a significant difference in the lives of those in need. Your generous donations will be used to purchase the necessary food supplies and materials for the meal-packing event. You can contribute by visiting and clicking donate! https://rah.my.salesforce-sites.com/events/homepage?id=7018c000001DenAAAS.
GLOBAL SYMPOSIUM
Due to difficulties finding a Keynote speaker for this year and the proximity in time to our Rise Against Hunger Campaign and Prom, this year's symposium has been canceled. Please consider donating the time you would have devoted to this event to our Rise Against Hunger Campaign. (See Above)
T-shirts
This year's t-shirts have arrived and will be delivered to your first-period class sometime this week. If you do not have a first-period period on campus, please see Mrs. Allen in room 202 to pick up your shirt.
The next Global Council meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 23rd, in room 202 at 3:45.
Reminder: The due date for Global Studies volunteer hours and the reflective questions is FRIDAY, MAY 10, 2024. This date is also when freshman essays are due!
What is the School of Global Studies?
The School of Global Studies at Terry Sanford High School is a choice program designed for success in college and in the 21st century with a curriculum that is interdisciplinary, interconnected, and focused on global relationships – allowing all students to gain a heightened awareness of current issues facing our international community while developing a global perspective and foundation of knowledge in which to better understand our world today and have a positive effect tomorrow.
The School of Global Studies consists of three major components: Academic Excellence, Global Awareness, and Cultural Activities.
Academic, Behavioral, and Attendance Excellence
Students will maintain a 3.0 grade point average, with no grade lower than a C.
Students will be enrolled in Honors or AP-level courses where available.
Students will conduct themselves with a high standard of behavior.
Students will attend school with a minimum number of absences.
Global Awareness / Community Volunteerism
Students will learn about our world through participation in cultural and academic activities, and through involvement in our Global Symposiums at FTS.
Students will show responsibility to their community by participating in worthwhile volunteer activities. Participation in the School of Global Studies requires students to complete 20-50 hours of volunteer service yearly through the organized volunteer program at Terry Sanford High School.
Social and Cultural Activities
Students will incorporate proper social skills into their conduct in order to be prepared for the competitive world of college admissions and for the professional life that follows.
Students will take part in opportunities that broaden their experiences with music, art, and theatre.
