All grade levels will benefit from working on typing skills. We will be learning to become "touch-typists". This method of not having to look at the keyboard aids students not only in creation of documents, but with ELA, grammar, and spelling.
Kindergarten, First Grade, and Second Grade will begin with Typing Jungle Jr. as their typing lesson. This program helps students become familiar with the alphabetical order of ABCs as well as their location on a standard QWERTY keyboard.
Third, Fourth, and Fifth grades will start by using the Typing Jungle program. This helps them develop proper finger placement, as well as typing stamina.
Are a you a good digital citizen? How much information do you share online? Have you every accidentally clicked on a website you know you shouldn't be on? What can we do to stop cyberbullying? How can we safely support someone who is the target of online bullying?
All of these questions are answered in our grade based Digital Citizenship topics. Ms. Owle uses a combination of curriculums from Common Sense Media and Google's Be Internet Awesome program. Each grade block is introduced to these very important topics in ways that break them down to the student level without instilling fear. We can have fun online but we need to know the rules to keep us safe.
Each day, Google highlights a special topic on their search page. These doodles can be a piece of art, an interactive game, a video that focus on the days topic or a link to a website. This is a great resource to help students become familiar with the function of a google based product as well as searching. In this complication, all of the featured doodles are interactive.
