Middle school is characterized as rapid mental and physical growth. Children at this age are wildly curious about the world around them and trying to figure out where they fit within it. They test the boundaries and explore with their identity, trying new things and friends/peers become the focus of their attention. Through a comprehensive counseling program, counselors work as part of a team with staff members, parents and the community to provide a caring and supportive climate and atmosphere whereby young adolescents can achieve academic success. School Counseling programs are essential for students to achieve optimal personal growth, acquire positive social skills and values, set appropriate career goals and realize full academic potential to become productive, contributing members of the world community. The professional middle school counselor holds a master's degree and required state certification in school counseling.
