• The Culpeper Technical Education Center (CTEC) offers career focused programs to prepare students for their future careers through hands-on instruction and authentic workplace experiences.

• CTEC will open in August 2021 for the 2021-2022 school year.

• CTEC is currently under construction. Please watch our Virtual Tour Video and check back on our CTEC website for updated pictures of the construction progress.

• CTEC is specifically designed to provide state of the art instruction for students interested in a specific career and technical education program. Students will have a great deal of hands-on instruction giving them an abundance of opportunity to apply what they are learning through authentic workplace experiences.

• CTEC is located next door to the Daniel Technology Center (Germanna Community College campus) off of Technology Drive in Culpeper, Virginia. The address is 17441 Frank Turnage Drive, Culpeper, VA 22701

• Career and Technical Education is designed for everyone. CTEC programs are designed for every student to achieve career advancement, regardless of postsecondary plans. Students enrolled in CTEC courses graduate with an industry credential (s) and are prepared to enter directly into the workforce OR to pursue further education and training after high school.

• Applications for acceptance into the Healthcare Technician and Emergency Medical Technician programs are live on the Admissions page and are due no later than March 19, 2021. Registration Requests for all other CTEC programs are also live and are due no later than March 19th, 2021. The Applications and Registration Requests are Google Forms and include detailed instructions. All forms are submitted electronically.

• Students interested in a CTEC program need to register for 8 classes during the registration period with their base school (CCHS or EVHS). The 8 classes you choose should be courses you would like to take in case you are not placed into a CTEC program. Adjustments to course requests will be completed after a seat in a CTEC program is obtained.

Course Offerings

• Students in grades 10-11 may take Culinary Arts I and students in grades 11-12 may take Culinary Arts II or Drafting I. Students in 12th grade may take Healthcare Technician or Emergency Medical Technician. All other programs are open to 11th graders for the 2021-22 school year.

• Students applying to the Healthcare Technician or Emergency Medical Technician programs may only apply to one of those particular programs. Students wishing to enroll in other programs may list up to three programs that they are interested in on the Request to Enroll form. However, students will be placed in one program unless space allows for more.

• The number of students enrolled in CTEC courses are limited due to safety restrictions set by the Virginia Department of Education and the Virginia Board of Nursing. Any student not initially enrolled in a course, will be placed on a waiting list. Students will be taken off the waiting list if a vacant spot opens.

• If students choose to enroll in a program with dual enrollment credits through Germanna Community College and J. Sgt. Reynolds Community College, they have the option to earn college credit. The current cost of dual enrollment credit is $39.75 per credit hour (based on 2020-21 school year information). In comparison, non dual enrollment students pay $163.75 per credit hour. Financial assistance is possible.

• For students enrolled at CTEC, there are no fees for materials or even the industry credential exams.

• The term “credential” includes educational certificates, industry certifications and state licenses. See the course offerings page to learn about the many credentials that are offered at CTEC. (Course Offerings)

• Students will not be able to drive their own vehicles to CTEC. Culpeper County Public Schools (CCPS) will provide transportation to CTEC for students from their base schools.

• Yes, CTEC will serve students from Culpeper County High School and Eastern View High School at the same time. While at CTEC, students from both base schools will work collaboratively toward our shared mission and vision for success.

• Students will travel from your home high school (either CCHS or EVHS) to CTEC for two blocks of your day. These two blocks will either be during an AM session or a PM session. • See the Course Offerings page for more specific information on dress expectations for individual classes. Students will dress for the profession that they are training in; for example, Culinary Arts students will wear chef jackets and hats which will be provided to the students.

• All CTEC courses are either dual enrolled or certificate-based programs. All CTEC courses also result in earning either a state license or industry credential. Completion of a CTEC program will prepare students to either enter directly into the workforce, or to continue their education in their chosen field.

• Dual enrollment and certificate-based programs are rigorous and rewarding as they challenge students to be prepared for the next steps in their lives.

• Yes! All CTEC students will have the opportunity to join SkillsUSA, the national education student professional organization serving students to prepare them for careers in trade, technical and skilled service (including health) occupations.
