We understand that there are locations in our county where there is minimal internet connectivity. We are attempting to address this issue in a few ways:
1) We have conducted a survey of the county and have selected a number of 4G/LTE hotspots designed to provide connectivity in a number of areas. We have pursued service providers to include Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon. Depending on your location, we may be able to provide your family one of these. This would be checked out from the school division at no cost to the family (as supplies last).
Hotspots have a contracted length of service. Seniors will return their hotspots at the end of the 2020-21 academic year. Once the service expires in late summer or early fall, families may purchase their own service by contacting the provider (i.e. - Verizon, Sprint, or T-Mobile)
2) Comcast provides discounted internet through their Internet Essentials program. If a family qualifies, the plan provides for a discounted monthly rate of $9.95. Click the link to see if you qualify and the service is available in your area.

3) Public WiFi locations - Culpeper schools have provided exterior WiFi in the school parking lots, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The county has also worked to provide additional locations as outlined on this map.
A map of described broadband services are located here as well.
It is our hope that the county will continue to pursue additional locations to provide drive up service. Regardless if a school or public location is used, remote students would only need to upload completed work and download new assignments on site. It is not expected that students would sit in a location for an extended period of time completing school work. This would likely be a quick exchange that could be done once a week.
Other options include a physical exchange of learning materials. A parent can bring completed work (in paper form or in the form of a USB Drive - digital content) by the school once a week. The teacher will arrange to have new materials ready prior to your arrival time. Schools may also consider mailing content as well (and other delivery options still being discussed).
There is also an expectation the teacher will provide periodic contact over the phone, or provide a dial-in Google Meets for student group participation.
For this exchange to be successful, parents (students) and teachers would need to identify the need and coordinate the means to support the continuation of instruction. Once your remote teacher is assigned, let him or her know of your concerns and challenges.
