AP EXAM ordering is now open for 2024-2025.
Taking the Advanced Placement exams is an important part of all AP courses. CCHS desires that all students take AP exams for the AP classes that they have taken or want to take. Scoring well on an AP exam can often earn students college credit for their high school class, saving a significant amount on tuition. We are pleased that you have chosen to take an Advanced Placement (AP) course this year and want to assist you in planning for the AP exam, which will be administered in person, at school, via hybrid digital or fully digital exams from May 5-16, 2025. Students in Full year and Term 1 classes must register online for an AP test by Friday, November 15 at 12 noon. Requests received after that date and time will result in a $40 late fee, per test. Students who register for a test but do not take it will be charged a $40 unused test fee.
The AP exam administration schedule is attached. Morning exams begin at 7:45 AM and afternoon exams begin at 12:00 PM, with exams lasting about 4 hours. Students may not be dismissed from an exam until all students have finished testing, per College Board regulations. Please make every effort to schedule vacations, appointments, or other activities on dates that do not conflict with the test administration dates, as make-up testing is permitted for verified emergencies only. Non verified absences will forfeit all exam costs.
Parents, and/or guardians are responsible for all financial obligations. Each exam is $99.00. There is a cost reduction for students who are eligible for free or reduced lunch by going through their school counselor. AP students are encouraged to contact their post-secondary institutions of interest to determine whether they accept AP scores for credit or course promotion. All exam fees will be paid to the school. Exam fees can be paid by cash, or check. There is an online option also with prior notice. If paying by check, please make the check out to Culpeper County High School. All payments will be processed by the School Test Coordinator. When making your payment, please indicate the exam(s) you are paying for.
Students will register/enroll in their course through the myap.collegeboard.org website. If you have taken AP classes in the past, they should already have an account. If you are taking your first AP class, you will need to create an account. You will need a Join Code to register; Those join codes are listed below. If you do not see a join code for an exam that you need then please contact Mrs. Walker - lwalker@ccpsweb.org. That join code may need to be created/activated.
Additional information for parents and students can be accessed through the College Board’s site and the CCHS website.
If you or your student needs any help with registering for an exam, please do not
hesitate to contact their AP teacher or Lisa Walker (AP and School Test Coordinator)
at lwalker@ccpsweb.org.
Can you take an AP exam without taking the class? Sure you can! Some students don’t end up taking a traditional AP course through their high school but still want to demonstrate their expertise to colleges by taking the test.
Can you take an AP exam without taking the class?
Taking the exam without the class may make sense if any of the following situations apply to you:
Your school does not offer the course, but you have a high-level understanding of the content.
You have taken courses in the subject through a dual-credit program or test prep course.
You will want to contact the AP Coordinator at that school. The AP Coordinator will provide instructions on how to do so, and they will take over ordering the exam and collecting any fees if you are approved.
It is best to reach out to the school test coordinator as soon as possible, as schools have to order AP tests by November 15th, and some schools have deadlines prior to this date. Schools can technically add students after this date at their own discretion, but they must pay a late fee.
To prepare for the exam without taking the course, you should study the skills and content outlined in the course and exam description for your subject, which you can find on the specific course page. For most courses, this document also explains how your knowledge of the course content and skills is assessed on the exams.
Get to know the exams by reviewing free practice questions. The AP Program releases free-response questions every year for exams that have them. They also offer free-response questions from past exams along with sample student responses and scoring guidelines so you can see why a real exam taker got the score they did.
We understand that on rare occasions students must cancel an exam. Here is our refund policy:
Students who cancel an exam by Fri - Nov 15, 2025 are entitled to a full refund of the exam fee.
Students who cancel an exam by, March 14, 2025 are entitled to a refund of the exam fee minus a cancellation fee of $45.00 (per exam cancelled).
After Friday, March 14, 2025 there are no refunds.
Late fees are nonrefundable.
We have access to Peterson's Test Prep. This can help with college test prep (PSAT, SAT, ACT, and AP). But, it can also support high school courses as well. There are modules in it to support classes like CTEC. Students can also look at colleges on the website and view what scholarships are available to them. They just have to click on this link and sign in: Peterson’s Test Prep
