Hello everyone,

My name is Mr. Jim Neiner and I am the band director for Swift Creek Middle School. I am so excited to see your interest in the beginning band, I truly hope that you will decide to become a member of the SCMS Band Program. Our band program is designed to build confidence, competence, and self-esteem to enrich your child's overall middle school experience. Beginning band is the first step that will lead to a sustained interest in music thought your child's educational career.

SCMS Beginning Band

What You Need To Know

To join the SCMS Beginning band you will need to make Beginning Band your 1st choice on your schedule request form. You should carefully select all choices, and the order you put them.
You DO NOT need an instrument to start the school year. You DO NOT even have to know what you want to play. The first several weeks of school we will test and try all of the instruments to find the best fit for the student.
If you already own on of the band instruments you will be able to use it in band class. If your family already owns a trumpet I will not make you play a different instrument. The goal is to get every student happy with their choice.
COST The band class has a $5.00 fee which is collected by the school on fee night.
Each band member will need to buy a Polo shirt for $20.00, this will be due in October.
The cost of your instrument, this can very depending on what you play and if you buy or rent. Most rentals are around $25.00 per month, you can rent new or used call one of the several music stores for more details.
You can buy an used instrument, be very careful about buying cheap on-line instruments they are not worth the headache.
WE CAN work with all financial issues, I can help find an instrument, I will not let money stand in the way of your child being in the band. We can rent some larger school instruments like tubas and baritones.
