Many practitioners would love an easy way to engage with the Conservation Standards and get started. How can we help them to get going and provide guidance that accelerates strategy development – before they hopefully go deeper?
The Easy CS initiative is working on this challenge. In this working session we will share our progress and seek the group’s input on the products being developed.
RALLY SESSION - SUMMARY FEEDBACK
High-level:
Participants were generally pleased with where this initiative is going
Participants liked the recipe analogy but suggested toning it down a bit. There was some concern about conflicting messages - we have often said, “The CS are not a recipe to be followed step by step.” This will need some messaging - the best cooks do not follow a recipe step by step.
Some confusion about what we presented being conceptual mock-ups - we could have done a better job emphasizing the concepts and not getting caught up in particulars (e.g., don’t like this image)
Discussion about the audience - the audience for these products is generally the less experienced coaches and teams who are not used to shortcuts.
Framing of the product: While the emphasis is on lighter approaches, this product can also make the case for more rigor by highlighting what you lose. Important to clarify that going through the CS is not a box-ticking exercise.
Recipe Slide Mock-ups:
General preference for the look, feel, and level of detail on the recipe card version - with some modifications to simplify
Suggestions to tone down the recipe references (e.g., remove many of the icons). Other minor formatting issues (which we were able to address to give updated mock-ups for the second session)
Several people liked a clear tie to the step in the CS (something present in the other design but less clear in the recipe version)
Many people liked an image that shows the “dish” (i.e. product or outcome of the process) you would prepare. There was a bit of a split on literal vs. conceptual versions of an image. However, more people seemed to favor something more literal (some split between images of the finished product vs. images of teams engaging in the process to develop the product)
Tipsheet Mock-up:
General desire to see everything together - four separate slides felt too disjointed
Interest in being able to download the tipsheets.
Some confusion about the purpose of the tipsheets and how they connect back to the recipe ingredients [We think this will become less of an issue as we develop other related tipsheets that will refer to one another]
Spreadsheet of Scenarios
Interest in this being one of the final products. People found utility in just knowing which processes or tools were most important for a particular scenario.
We did not explore the format on this product but will likely keep it fairly simple. We welcome input!
