The state of Ohio defines a gifted student as one who “performs or shows potential for performing at remarkably high levels of accomplishment when compared to others of their age, experience, or environment. " When a student is identified as gifted in a given content area, they maintain that identification through their graduation.
Every gifted looks different; a child can belong to more than one of these groups. A child can be a high achiever and gifted. A child can also be gifted and not be a high achiever. It's important to recognize where your child might fall and help them to reach their potential.
At Cedar Cliff Local Schools, there are a few ways to identify giftedness in a student:
Grades 2 and Grades 5 participate in a whole-grade screening for giftedness using the IOWA basic skills test and the CogAT Cognitive Assessment.
Grades 2,3,4 and 5 use the IReady assessment to identify reading and math gifted areas.
