Welcome to my Sail for Sanity web page

I'd like to introduce you to my latest web project

Over the past few decades I've spent countless hours trying to understand these simple questions:

Is Earth's climate really changing? how and why? and will it affect us?

This led me much further than I ever expected. To answer it, I found myself exploring not just the science of today's climate, but the entire 4.5-billion-year history of our remarkable planet.

The result became a presentation I've shared with community groups up and down the coast where I live. Many people have since asked where they can learn more at their own pace.

The Earthsstory.au page is the beginning of that journey.

At the same time, my wife Evelyn and I are undertaking another adventure—retracing our honeymoon from more than forty years ago, this time travelling around central Australia in our electric vehicle. Along the way we're meeting fascinating people, visiting some of the oldest landscapes on Earth, and discovering how Australia's geology, climate and communities are all connected.

Over the coming months I'll be adding articles from the road, expanding on the science behind my presentations, and gradually building what I hope will become Earth's Story—an illustrated guide to understanding our planet's past, present and future.

Whether you've arrived here after attending one of my talks, are curious about climate science, or simply enjoy exploring Australia, I hope you'll find something here that informs, challenges and inspires.

Welcome aboard.
