Guided Gothic Tour of Highgate Cemetery
On the 12th of February 2026, a selection of literature enthusiasts from Years 11 to 13, accompanied by Mr Arendse and Ms Riley, were given a guided tour around Highgate Cemetery. As a focal point that most likely inspired the atmosphere in one of our A Level English Literature texts ‘Dracula’, our day in the cemetery provided a truly immersive and insightful exploration into the Gothic.
Upon our arrival our tour guide Aaron pointed out the typically Gothic architecture of the cemetery’s entrance, the imposing gate and two chapels positioned either side of it an attempt to deter the graverobbers that Stoker’s Victorian audience were so anxious of. We were then brought to the usually locked East cemetery, where Aaron showed us the graves of various notable figures from across history. He also brought us to the Rossetti family grave, allowing us to see the final resting place of the Pre-Raphaelites. This included Christina Rossetti herself whose collection of 19th century poems we study at A Level. We also visited the graves of Douglas Adams, Michael Faraday, George Eliot, Julius Beer and Karl Marx, some of us leaving pens as tributes, alongside being shown the catacombs where unburied coffins were stored.
The day was a unique opportunity for us to physically experience our studies and this was heightened by the gloomy woodland and frequent showers that day. As insisted by Mr Arendse, the entire Sixth Form Cohort arrived dressed in black in order to match the atmosphere, and leaving the cemetery amongst a sea of black umbrellas topped off what we will remember as a truly Gothic venture.
Hamilton Trip
On Tuesday 3rd March students from Y11 and Y12 had the opportunity to go and see the hit musical Hamilton at the Victoria Palace Theatre with Mr Harvey and Miss Rawlings. Historians at CCF learn about the American Revolution as part of their A-level course, so this fantastic experience helped students consolidate the learning they have done in the classroom.
World Book Day
Students in Y7-11 listened to audio clips this week of 'The Magic Shop' by H.G. Wells and discussed this in form time, and the library was transformed into a hub of excitement for this year’s World Book Day! Students fully immersed themselves in the festivities, putting their detective skills to the test with ‘Guess the Readers’ and channelling their inner mathematicians to estimate the books packed into our challenge jar.
Creativity was also on full display at our bookmark-making station, but the real showstopper was the Art Competition. The judging panel faced a difficult task due to the incredible range of artistic interpretations submitted.
We are thrilled to announce our winners: Fatima W, Guy Y, and Irene J. Congratulations to our winners and a huge thank you to everyone who made the day so memorable!
