Updates for the Parents/Carers of Christ’s College Finchley
TABLE OF CONTENTS
Dear families,
I am delighted to share with you that the data released by the local authority this week shows that we have had 725 applications for the 174 places available for September 2026. Parents/carers may be aware that there are falling rolls in primary schools in Barnet and greater London and this data is therefore particularly pleasing and shows that the local community recognises the excellent work that goes on each and every day at Christ’s College to support our pupils to advance all the way.
Next Tuesday 25 November 2025 our Sixth Form Open Evening takes place from 6pm and we are looking forward to welcoming our Year 11 pupils, accompanied by parents/carers, to the event. There will be a talk from Mr Scott, Head of Sixth Form, and me, at 6.15pm and talks from teachers of A-level subjects and a marketplace to find out more information about each of the subjects we offer and the support available in the Sixth Form. Please click here for more information about the evening.
I would like to remind all families that, in order to prepare for Sixth Form Open Evening, we will close early for pupils on Tuesday 25 November 2025: pupils in Years 10-13 will be dismissed at 1.30pm and pupils in Years 7-9 at 2.05pm. Should you require your child to remain on site until their usual finish time, please email info@ccfplus.com and we will organise for your child to be supervised until 3.05pm. I would also like to remind families that we have our next INSET day on Wednesday 26 November 2025.
The weather has certainly turned more wintry this week and we saw snow for the first time this academic year on Wednesday morning. I would like to remind parents and carers to ensure your child is appropriately dressed for the weather as we are likely to experience further cold temperatures in the coming weeks.
This week our Year 9 and 10 sports leaders supported at the Barnet Primary Sports Festival on Wednesday and the organiser contacted the school to say how brilliantly our pupils supported and communicated with the younger pupils and ensured that every child had a chance to succeed. This week has also seen the Year 11 Geography pupils visit Stratford on one of three separate trips and I know they found these trips useful and the staff involved were impressed with their conduct and attitudes to learning. Year 12 pupils visited the Churchill War Rooms yesterday and we hosted author Ashley Hickson-Lovence yesterday who spoke to Year 9 pupils in assembly and led workshops for pupils. His talk and workshops were very engaging and it was lovely to see the pupils develop their own writing and learn from a professional. I would like to remind parents and carers to follow our instagram (click here) to keep up-to-date with everything that takes place at CCF.
Finally, a plea from our catering team regarding juice tokens. The juice machines are very popular at social times but we have noticed that some pupils are purchasing and collecting the juice tokens. We are now at the stage where we have almost run out of juice tokens and will be unable to offer juice for sale until our order for more tokens is received. I apologise if your child is unable to purchase juice over the coming days as a result and ask you to speak to your child to remind them to use a token on the day they purchase it.
