Cambridge Trip - 11th February
On Wednesday, 10 students from our year 12 Aspiration Pathway travelled to our link college, Gonville and Caius, for an immersive experience into life at the University of Cambridge.
The day was designed to demystify the Oxbridge application process. Students engaged in a Q&A with the admissions tutor and current first-year undergraduates, gaining valuable insight into the reality of student life. A highlight for many was the three-course lunch served in the formal dining hall, where students ate surrounded by the portraits and stained glass imagery of college alumni such as Francis Crick, John Venn, and Stephen Hawking.
The group also enjoyed a tour of the college’s stunning architecture and library, followed by a lecture on the Sami, Thule, and Indigenous Norse Americans.
The feedback from the students was overwhelmingly positive. Many expressed surprise at the friendly atmosphere and the emphasis on "super-curricular" passion over standard extracurricular activities. As one student noted, "It gave me a massive insight... and increased my interest to apply to Cambridge to study Psychology." Another commented on the inspiring environment: "I was surprised by how passionate everyone seems to be about the subject they study."
It was a fantastic day that has reinforced the ambitions of our students to aim for top-tier universities.
