TOPICAL TOOLKIT FOR CLIMATE RESILIENCE AND ADAPTATION

Topical Toolkit Overview

The purpose of the topical section of the toolkit is to support LEA leaders with data, tools, resources, and examples of how to transition school buildings and grounds to be sites of resilience to specific climate threats. At this time, the toolkit includes extreme heat, stormwater management, and grid instability. These topics are not exhaustive, and we recognize that this toolkit should be built out further to reflect other climate impacts such as wildfires, wildfire smoke, and sea level rise, among others.

This toolkit reflects available data as of Fall 2024, local and national best practices currently employed, and examples from school and district leaders who are innovating in real time in response to the climate crisis and the ways it’s impacting our students’ learning, health, safety, and wellbeing.

Implementation of this guidance should be tailored for each setting, including adequate consideration of instructional programs at each school site and the needs of students, families, and staff.
