Vizzit NGSS Environmental Literacy Workshop Series: Contra Costa County Office of Education (CCCOE) partnered with Vizzit.co, a GPS-based application designed for place-based learning. On day one, educators engage in CA NGSS, phenomena, lesson exploration and 5E lesson planning. Day two is a field experience workshop using the Vizzit app as a self-guided tour that has already been created and shared by Vizzit staff or other educators. Day three workshop is focused on designing storytelling for place-based learning and creating content using the Vizzit app. https://bit.ly/CCCOE-Vizzit-NGSS

California's Environmental Principles and Concepts (EP&Cs) highlight the deep relationship between humans and the natural world. These are intended to inform standards-based instruction and fuel student inquiry. Teachers can support environmental literacy by helping students to understand and apply the EP&Cs across academic disciplines and in the real world. By law, the EP&Cs must be addressed in future California textbooks and instructional materials adopted by the state.
Principle 1 - People depend on natural systems
Principle 2 - People influence natural systems
Principle 3 - Natural systems change in ways that people benefit from and can influence
Principle 4 - There are no permanent or impermeable boundaries that prevent matter from flowing between systems
Principle 5 - Decisions affecting resources and natural systems are complex and involve many factors
