I am so excited to begin a new year with my NCE artists! We will continue to explore the Elements and Principles of Design, as well as learn to use a variety of media and techniques. I hope that all of my "smartest artists" have been practicing their art skills at home during the summer. I can't wait to make art with you!
I am so excited to begin my fifth year teaching art at North Columbia Elementary. I have been teaching art for nineteen years, ten of which were in Columbia County. I began by teaching at the High School level, but realized quickly that my heart was with the little ones.
I knew from a young age that I enjoyed creative thinking and making . However, it wasn't until I was encouraged by my high school teacher that I wanted to pursue art. I went on to Piedmont College to major in studio art, with a painting concentration. I can remember helping others in the studio and my favorite professor telling me, "you are meant to be a teacher." Those words motivated me to receive a B.A. in Studio Art and an M.A.T. in Art Education. I'm thankful for the encouragement that I received from my teachers and my family that helped guide me to a such a fulfilling career.
When I'm not teaching, I am spending time with my family. I have been married to my husband, Jeff, for nineteen years. We have two beautiful children, Will, 16 and Emmy,12 and a boykin spaniel named Charlie.
My belief is that art is for everyone. I hope to instill knowledge, creative thinking and an appreciation for the arts in each of my NCE artists.
