If your child is having any trouble being successful learning vocabulary words...
For words that are totally new or especially difficult, students should make study cards that include MULTIPLE ways of understanding the word. Synonyms, antonyms, definitions, pronunciation and sentences can be found in the book. Encourage your child to figure out the connotation of the word and examples/illustrations on their own! See examples below.
For words they are having trouble with, have students orally make up sentences with the words and encourage them to make sentences with more and more details.
Play charades. Seriously. Let your student act out words for you while you hold onto the cards and guess the word. Or vice versa. physical movement + emotional engagement = learning that lasts
