Reading is Powerful!
The much loved summer months are here! While we all enjoy having fun in the sun, you should still make summer reading a priority.
There are many ways to ensure your child reads during the summer. Here are some tips:
Let kids chose their own books! Visit the public library.
Read aloud every day - let your child read aloud too.
Listen to audiobooks as you travel. Did you know audiobooks are available for free from the public library?
Participate in fun reading activites, programs, and challenges. (See ideas by clicking "Reading Activities and Programs" linked in the banner above.)
Make reading FUN, not a chore! Read in fun locations, read the books kids want to read, read as a family, join or do fun activities involving reading.
Many movies are made from awesome books. Read the book and then watch the movie as a family.
Make a reading goal. It could be a certain number of books or even reading every book in a series. Let your child come up with the goal.
