Geometry

Course Description:

The fundamental purpose of Geometry is to extend the mathematics that students learned in the middle grades and in Algebra I. The critical areas, organized into units, deepen and extend understanding of linear, quadratic, and exponential relationships. Also introduced is right triangle trigonometry. In addition, properties of circles are introduced including volume and angle measure and length of tangent and secant lines. Geometry uses algebra to deepen and extend understanding of geometric knowledge from prior grades. The 6th unit in the course ties together the algebraic and geometric ideas studied. After that, previous concepts in probability and statistics are applied to the geometry learned, especially as it relates to area of circles.
