Why am I a teacher?
I have a ton of experience explaining complex weather patterns to the general public in an easy-to-understand manner, so I decided to take that skill and transfer it to the classroom. It was an easy choice when I enjoyed the dozens of school talks I did each year. I'm also a 4th generation educator. My dad is a teacher/principal, my grandfather was a teacher/principal, and my great-grandmother and great-grandfather were teachers in a one room schoolhouse. I'm proud to continue that legacy.
Why should you trust what I teach?
Believe it or not, meteorology is equal parts math and science, so I'm actually qualified to teach both. I received my bachelor's degree in Atmospheric Sciences from the University of Illinois, my master's degree in Geoscience/Meteorology from Mississippi State University, and my Specialist Degree in Educational Instruction from Augusta University. During that time, I did more calculus and physics than you can probably imagine...plus some more. I also spent nearly a decade forecasting the weather on TV for stations in Great Falls, Montana and Augusta, GA. I'm all about application, so I hope to inspire you to take the math and science that we learn and use it in your daily life.
What am I doing outside of the classroom?
I'm happily married to my wife Stephanie and we have a wonderful little girl named Sloane who will turn two this year. Baby #2 is on the way and should be here in November, so I'll be out for a bit on parental leave at the end of the first semester as we welcome a baby boy to the mix. We have two dogs, an 8 pound pomapoo named Sailor and a 40 pound chocolate labradoodle named Phoenix. These energetic ladies keep us on our toes. I've lived in 7 different states (incl. Georgia twice) so it's always difficult to answer "where I'm from." I love international travel with recent trips to England, Scotland, Japan, Iceland, Denmark, and Sweden. When I'm not teaching or traveling, you can find me landscaping my yard, on the golf course, playing video games, listening to 90s hip hop, baking in my kitchen, or pulling for one of my sports teams (Illinois, Mississippi State, Dallas Cowboys, Arizona Diamondbacks, Phoenix Suns, Phoenix Mercury, and Chelsea).
I'm very excited for the new school year and can't wait to partner with you in your educational success.
