Welcome to our Pre-K page! My name is LaShonda Robertson, and Mrs. April Maddox and I will be your child's teachers this year. We are both looking forward to an exciting year with you and your child, and are excited about our journey with your child this year! We would like to take the time to welcome you and your sweet angel to the Pre-K /Child Development Program at North Columbia Elementary School. We feel that it is important that we work together and support each other in order for your child to have a rewarding first educational experience. It is our goal to provide social, academic, emotional, and physical development to educate the whole child.
I, LaShonda Robertson, have been teaching since December 1999. In 2007, I took 11 years off to raise my children with some part-time teaching in between, and returned back to work full-time after my youngest was in 1st grade in 2018. I am more excited than ever to teach your child this year! I have four beautiful and phenomenal children and am blessed to be married to the love of my life for 23 years. My four kiddos have all been "my best teachers" and my "greatest accomplishments." My amazing husband, children, and I enjoy spending family time together as well as with our extended family. We love going to the beach, camping in the RV, traveling, and having movie night Fridays at home with homemade pizza that we make together as a family.
I am a graduate from the University of South Carolina, where I received both my Undergraduate Degree in Early Childhood Education and my Masters Degree in Elementary Education, and I love the Gamecocks! I have also taken many other courses since then from College of Charleston. Previously, I have taught, fourth grade, third grade, and kindergarten. I spent most of my teaching career teaching Kindergarten and Pre-K. I have always wanted to teach Pre-K, so when the opportunity presented itself in 2018, I was more than excited to begin a new chapter teaching the grade level of my dreams!
My amazing assistant is April Maddox. Ms. Maddox likes to be called Ms. April. Ms. April is a born enthusiasts to the little ones, actually to everyone she meets! She has been in the Columbia County schools for 26 years, and 13 of those years have been in Pre-K right here at North Columbia Elementary. She has one handsome son who is her pride and joy, and she has been blessed to be married to her amazing husband for 29 years who is her childhood sweetheart. They enjoy traveling to the mountains, spending time together, and taking care of their fur babies and her beautiful plants. Ms. April is a die hard Prince Fan, and Purple rain is one of her favorite songs that you will often hear her singing!
We will be in constant communication with you throughout the year. Please be sure to check your child's communication folder daily. The weekly newsletter will always be in the back sleeve and the weekly behavior sheet will be inside the folder on the return to school side. Please initial this daily to let us know you have seen it. Ms. April checks these first thing in the morning. Although I will send out weekly reminders/information as needed that will answer most questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to us at any time! We also share lots of pictures through our private facebook page of a few highlights of our daily activities. However, do not post concerns or questions on Facebook because your comments may or may not be seen daily. This is solely for your enjoyment! Send important messages via Remind.
