The River Ridge Learning Commons features a library collection of over 10,000 books for students to choose from. The fiction section and "Everybody Books" are organized by genre. The nonfiction section is organized using the Dewey Decimal System. Students use the Destiny Catalog to search for the just right book for them.
How many books can my child check out? Kindergarten students check out 1 book and 1st through 5th grade students may have up to 3 books checked out at a time.
How long can my child keep library books? Your child can keep library books for 2 weeks with the option to renew books 1 time each. Your child can return books when finished and do not need to keep the book for the entire two week loan period.
What do I do if my child loses a book? Book fines are issued in print and sent home with the student. Parents can use the RevTrak system to pay lost book fines. We cannot accept replacement books. **Library bound books are more expensive than books purchased online or at book stores because of the strength of the materials used to make the books and additional labeling and cataloging materials that are required for library books.
How often will my child come to the Learning Commons? The Learning Commons and Guidance share a specials rotation on the daily schedule. Grades K, 1, and 2 come to the Learning Commons for class and book checkout 1st and 3rd 9 weeks. Grades 3, 4, and 5 come to the Learning Commons for class and book checkout 2nd and 4th 9 weeks. In addition, students can come to the Learning Commons using a pass from the classroom any day as needed. Each classroom has 2 passes. Teachers also have the option to sign up for time in the Learning Commons for the whole class or small groups as needed.
