Course Synopsis:
This course is designed to provide opportunities through close observation and analysis, evidence-based writing, higher-order questioning/thinking, and academic conversation. Throughout the year students will hone their writing skills, enhance their reading comprehension, and expand their vocabulary.
No food or drink in class.
Come to class prepared and on time.
Remain on task. Remain in your assigned seat.
Respect yourself and others.
Avoid disrupting the learning process.
If you are absent, it is your responsibility to check with me for make-up work, missing quizzes, and/or tests upon your return to school within 5 days of an excused absence. Until missing work is completed, it will be entered as a zero in Infinite Campus. All work assigned prior to your absence is still due the day you return. Tests and quizzes must be made up before or after school. The only exception applies to writing assignments and projects: Regardless of whether or not you are physically present in class, all original due dates apply. If you do not attend class the day the writing/project is due, submit it through Google Classroom.
Make arrangements with me to attend tutoring or make up a quiz/test.
It is imperative you keep up with your assignments and study on a nightly basis. All assignments are due before and/or on the due date. I will give you ample time to complete papers and projects so turning them in late will come with a penalty. Please note major projects and writing assignments will be accepted late with one letter grade deducted per day.
Come prepared for class with your textbook, paper, notebook, and pen every single day!!
Since you cannot learn and be on your phone simultaneously, this class has a NO PHONE POLICY that will be strictly enforced! The only exception is when we use technology in a lesson, and even then, students must stay on task.
All homework assignments are due at the beginning of class. Do not try to complete those assignments in class. That work is already counted as late AND you fall behind!
