You must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and an ELA GPA of 3.5 to join NEHS. The NEHS sponsors will request your GPA on your behalf. Do not ask the Guidance Department/Counselor for this.
The National English Honor Society (NEHS) is open to secondary students and select faculty who have demonstrated exceptional ability in such areas as literary analysis, media studies, composition, linguistic study, and creative writing, and who meet the requirements of membership. NEHS does not offer individual student memberships; all members must be invited by an active chapter; however, schools (i.e., virtual systems) linked under a central administrative entity may apply. Only Sophomores and Juniors may apply.
FEES
New NEHS members pay a one-time, $15 fee when enrolled into the Society, regardless of grade level when first selected. There will additionally be a $15 cord fee (one-time fee), and a t-shirt fee ($20). Together, every new member must pay a $50 total fee through Revtrack.
Returning members will only have to pay a $5 club fee and $20 for the t-shirt, a total of $25 to be paid through Revtrack.
These fees, coupled with the annual affiliation fee ($65), fund all scholarships, grants, awards, and administrative costs.
For students who are receiving free/reduced lunch or those with unique family circumstances, NEHS does have a fee-reduction application Advisors may submit. The reduced fee is $5 for qualified students.
