Although this is my second year teaching at GTMS, I've spent many more years at the school! I attended GTMS and was on the softball team!
I graduated from Augusta University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Teaching Certificate. I have a passion for studying biology, which carries over into my teaching of the subject.
Herpetology
the study of reptiles and amphibians
trekking through a temporal wetland located below Thurmond Dam at Clarks Hill Lake with my class
Salamander egg masses at different gestational stages (one with symbiotic Oophila bacteria) collected from Reed Creek
Juvenile American alligator (Alligator mississippiensis)
Molecular Lab
biochemical lab techniques
Preparing a sample for a PCR (polymerase chain reaction) followed by a gel electrophoresis to test for genetic modification
Glowing E. coli made by genetic engineering using the "pglo" gene found in bioluminescent jellyfish
My personal favorite niche of biology-- microscopy! I could sit at a microscope all day long just watching the world that is invisible to the naked eye.
I have a 6 year old daughter, and will be getting married in October! I also have 2 cats at home. I have become an unofficial cat foster in recent years, and have accumulated a few "foster fails" that I just couldn't part with.
I was born in Mobile, AL (Roll Tide), and moved to Georgia when I was 4. I lived in Grovetown until my late teens, so I attended Euchee Creek Elementary, Cedar Ridge Elementary, Grovetown Middle School, then Grovetown High School.
