About me

My name is Andrea Short, I am married to Richy, and we have two sons. Nolan is starting his freshman year in college. Mason will be in 8th grade this year. This is my 21st year of teaching and ALL of them have been here at Westmont. I received my Bachelor's degree from Augusta University in 1999 and I recently earned a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Georgia Southern University. I absolutely love teaching at Westmont and wouldn't want to be anywhere else. I was honored to be recognized by my colleagues as Westmont's Teacher of the Year in 2017. Later that year I was blessed to be chosen as The Columbia County Teacher of the Year, and got to drive the free BMW for year! I have taught 5th grade for 19 years, I think 5th graders are awesome and I truly love my job. I believe that all students can learn and I try to make my classroom welcoming for everyone. I encourage mutual respect for everyone in my classroom, and I treat my class as if it were a small community. I hope you and your family enjoy this 5th Grade year and I look forward to working with you. With all of us working together we can make 5th grade the BEST YEAR EVER!

Social Studies

This year in Social Studies we will be covering a large span of time beginnings around 1877 and going all the way to current times! Our focus will include: America at the Turn of the Century, WWI, The Great Depression, WWII, The Cold War, and The Civil Rights Movement, just to name a few.

Science

In Science we will cover: Earth and Changes, Classification, Cells & Microorganisms, Electricity & Magnetism, and Chemical and Physical Changes. I hope to include as many hands on learning opportunities as possible!!
