Reading, Writing, and Grammar

  • All ELA standards are building on what students have previously learned. Please make sure that students are reading nightly to develop fluency and stamina with reading! Students will be able to do activities to develop reading and writing skills on MobyMax and USA Test Prep!

  • Students will build writing stamina in the following genres: narrative writing, persuasive writing, and informative writing.

  • The grading percentages are as follows:

      • Reading 70%

      • Grammar/Writing 30%

  • Module assessments will count as a grade.

Math

  • This is a BIG year in math! Everything students learn this year will set the foundation for 4th and 5th grade!

  • Students will have the following programs to help increase their math understanding:

        • Reflex Math

        • USA Test Prep

        • Moby Max

An overarching standard for 3rd grade is that students will know all products of one-digit numbers. Please work at home to help students learn their multiplication facts!

Social Studies

  • Students will continue using Social Studies Weekly pamphlets this year! Social Studies grades will be given this year based on SS Content Knowledge.

  • We may be asking for students to complete various projects at home throughout the year that incorporate the skills we are learning in social studies. Thanks in advance for supporting your child’s learning at home!

  • Science and Social Studies are taught interchangeably this year. We spend a few weeks in science and then a few weeks in social studies during the 9-weeks period. This means students may not have a grade in both subjects during progress report times!

Science

  • We will also be completing more STEM activities in class throughout the year as MES is a STEM Certified school! Please let us know if you would be willing to send in supplies and resources for this as needed!

Reflex math helps our students with learning their math facts with fluency! Students will work to master their addition, subtraction, and multiplication facts through this program.

I encourage them to get the "green light" each day!

Moby Max is an online resource that allows students review skills that are taught in class. It gives students practice on both reading and math strategies and skills.

USA Test Prep is a resource used to extend student learning in both reading and math. While teachers can assign assessments through USA Test Prep, students can also play individual games and practice skills they may need extra practice with.
