Students will be captivated by the history surrounding the formation of our country. Our primary resource will be the newspaper like consumable, Studies Weekly. The social studies journal will be utilized to serve as a reference to students and a resource to parents on what was covered in class and to help study. We will not typically have written homework in social studies, but discussing current topics of study with your child daily (5-10 minutes daily on social studies days) will help them to remember and understand. This often makes for great "dinner table" or car discussion. :)
Social studies and science are taught on a two-week rotation, so that students will not have both of these classes at the same time. This also means that at any one time, your child will only have to focus on three classes (math, ELA, and either social studies OR science).
**all can be accessed through ClassLink - go to www.ccboe.net and scroll down for the ClassLink icon - your child should have their login as it does not change from year to year and they use it daily at school - all school books, websites, resources, and Google sites may be reached through their ClassLink account**

All newspaper articles as well as corresponding videos may be accessed through this site.
Social Studies Journal
Our social studies information is gathered from the Studies Weekly newspapers. As we discuss, narrow down, and do activities to clarify that information, we enter it into our social studies journals. This is copied directly in class.
All tests and quizzes will be taken from what was narrowed down and entered into the journal. This will make reviewing nightly (on social studies weeks) and preparing for tests/quizzes easier.
