Things to do if your child has a lost library book:
Look, Look, Look. We would much rather have the book returned instead of purchasing a replacement. Please have your child back track to the last place they remember having the book...sometimes it's still there!
Check all the sneaky hiding places like under the bed, bookshelves where personal books are kept, the car, the bus, lost and found at school, extra pockets in backpacks.
If the library book becomes overdue (2 weeks after checkout), students cannot check out until the book replacement fee is paid or the book is returned in good condition.
If the book is found later, return it and you'll receive your money back pending condition and amount of time elapsed.
Sometimes... life just happens and accidents occur to books or they simply become lost. In such event, a fee is issued so that we can replace the book in our collection.
A frequently asked question is "Why are library books so expensive?" Library books are purchased from the publisher with special library binding and covers. (Usually more durable for frequent use.) In addition, with each book, we must purchase a barcode, a MARC record, Lexile labels and pay shipping. The average cost of a library book is $22.00. (Some books cost up to $30.) In order to replace a lost book and not loose funding for purchasing new books, a replacement fee is charged to cover the cost of the book. (Which is why we would much rather have the original book back.)
If it becomes necessary for you to replace a book, we have 2 options for you.
1) You may send in cash, check (made our to BRE) or use RevTrak pay the replacement cost for the book.
2) You may choose a book from our "Blue Ridge Reads" page to order as a replacement. It will come straight from Bound to Stay Bound (a book binding company) ready to circulate. *Please email Mrs. Smith (stephanie.smith@ccboe.net) if you choose this option.
We thank you for helping us maintain our collection for our readers!
