Students have finished their museum! They learned how to be a 'docent' and walk people through their exhibits.
We started October with Ozobots!
As we continue in our unit "Beneath the Surface," students are starting to research their birthstone, a fossil, a rock, and soil. They will create a museum exhibit to showcase their knowledge. They are also still being challenged with logic puzzles.
We learned about mold and cast fossils. We decided to try and make our own with clay, dinosaurs, and plaster of Paris. We also learned how to identify rocks based on color, particle size, luster, and streak.
Fossils have been on our mind in class lately. We discovered the process in which some fossils formed and made a flow chart to explain. We will be attempting to make some fossils soon. Coding this week was learning how to make the Ozobot turn at intersections. This will continue as we learn more about maps.
Students started learning some basic code for the Ozobots! Ozobots can be coded in a variety of ways, but we start with color coding.
Students have jumped right into learning things "Beneath the Surface." They have discovered that their are more than one type of fossil and that fossils form in different ways. Raelynn is holding a piece of petrified wood that she says is heavy and feels like cold rock. Avery is holding a piece of shale from Pennsylvania that has fossilized St. Clair ferns in it. Ellie is holding a mold of a trilobite, an extinct arthropod.
