Welcome to Cyber Connections

Cyber Connections is Harlem Middle School’s computer science and cybersecurity program. Students explore computer hardware, software, networking, cybersecurity, digital citizenship, emerging technologies, and technology careers through hands-on activities and digital learning experiences.

Meet Mr. Gibbs

Mr. Gibbs brings a wide range of real-world experience to Cyber Connections, including education, technology, cybersecurity, military service, business ownership, retail and operations management, supply chain, human resources, nonprofit leadership, and professional athletics. He has worked in both the United States and Europe and enjoys helping students connect classroom learning to real careers, leadership, teamwork, problem solving, and life beyond school.

Bulldog Expectations

Students in Cyber Connections are expected to be Respectful, Responsible, and Ready each day. These expectations help create a positive learning environment where students can work together, explore technology, and take ownership of their learning.

Explore Your Grade

6th Grade - Build the Foundation

Explore computer science careers and learn the basics of computer hardware and software. Students are introduced to networking, malware, cybersecurity, AI, drones, and digital citizenship, then complete a final project by designing a computer digitally.

Visit 6th Grade

7th Grade - Connect and Protect

Review hardware and software concepts, then dive deeper into computer networking and malware. Students also preview cybersecurity, AI, drones, and digital citizenship before completing a final project by building a website.

Visit 7th Grade

8th Grade - Secure, Create, and Innovate

Review key hardware, software, networking, and malware concepts before moving deeper into cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, drones, and digital citizenship. Students finish the course by designing and building an application.

What’s Happening in Cyber Connections

6th Grade

Computer Hardware

Beginning a two-week unit on computer hardware, components, and how computers work.

7th Grade

Hardware → Software → Networking

Wrapping up hardware, moving into a brief software unit, then beginning an in-depth study of computer networking.

8th Grade

Hardware → Software → Networking → Malware

Finishing the hardware and software refresher, followed by brief networking and malware units before beginning an extended cybersecurity unit.

CyberPatriot — Coming Soon

CyberPatriot is coming to Harlem Middle School this fall. After-school programs are expected to begin in September. Additional information about participation, meeting dates, and team activities will be posted soon.
