GHS Lacrosse History and Quick Facts
Coach Jeff Becker from Evans High School was instrumental in starting a lacrosse team at GHS.
A former player in the Augusta club league and Greenbrier parent, Paul Myer, made a donation that allowed GHS to purchase necessary equipment to start a team. Coach Becker, Kim Hines and Paul Myer then set up a meeting with the Athletic Director at the time--Chris Chadwick--and convinced him to start a lacrosse program at Greenbrier.
The first couple of years were tough. Trying to schedule a season when most games were over 150 miles away is no easy task. Other teams were also skeptical about traveling that far to play a brand new team because most Pack opponents were from the Atlanta area. In their 2nd season, the Pack managed to put together a string of 4 wins. In their 4th season, the Pack got a new school coach named Glen Vaught, who had a strong soccer background. Unfortunately, that season had 9 of the scheduled 16 games rained out, and they could not be rescheduled.
Lacrosse first started at Greenbrier High School in 2007. Each year, our team has grown in numbers and support. In 2010, the option was added for 8th Graders to play on Junior Varsity.
In 2011, Coach Garrett Black convinced a young football and track coach named Creswell Curtis to become the Lacrosse Head Coach. Coach Curtis brought his boundless energy, recruiting skills and soon-to-be-famous quotes to the team. In 2011, the team won five games and defeated Lakeside High school for the first time. The team also clinched a spot in the Georgia playoffs for the first time. Under the rainy skies of Lambert High School, GHS lost to the eventual state champions. Since then, the team has made it to the first round of the State playoffs in 2016 and hosted our first state playoff game against Pope HS in 2018.
In 2024, Coach Curtis led our Varsity team to a 15-3 overall record, including bringing home the The Founders Trophy and advancing to the 2nd Round of the State Playoffs for the first time in school history! He also led our JV team to a 10-1 overall record.
The Wolfpack competes in GHSA Region 5A and plays some of the best teams in the state.
