Programs We Use
Future Problem Solving - Founded in 1974 by creativity pioneer, Dr. E. Paul Torrance, Future Problem Solving Program International (FPSPI) stimulates critical and creative thinking skills, encourages students to develop a vision for the future, and prepares students for leadership roles. FPSPI engages students in creative problem solving within the curriculum and provides competitive opportunities. Future Problem Solving Program International involves thousands of students annually from Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Portugal, Singapore, Turkey, United Kingdom, and the United States.
FPSPI Mission: To develop the ability of young people globally to design and achieve positive futures through problem solving using critical and creative thinking.
Perennial Math - Perennial Math has three types of competition for students in grades 3-12: An online competition with two separate seasons to choose from; Live tournaments hosted at colleges or schools; and WebEx Virtual tournaments for classrooms. Math students are COOL and are recognized with our monthly Wall of Fame, cool dog tags for champions, and certificates for all competitors. Math coaches are better prepared because they receive Power Points based on specific types of questions that provide students good solid practice.
Word Masters Challenge - The WordMasters Challenge™ is a vocabulary competition based on completing analogies. At each grade level, the competition consists of three 20-minute analogy-solving meets which are held at our school three times a year in December, February and April. Prior to each meet, students are given a list of 25 challenging vocabulary words customized by grade and competition level. After each meet, we submit our work to be scored and Word Masters will announce the team and student leaders for each grade level and division. This is a nation-wide competition so we will be scored accordingly. A year-end report highlights the cumulative winners and each team receives a champion medal and ten recognition certificates.
