Grading information:
Grades are calculated using a combination of formative assessments (category weight 40%) and summative assessments (category weight 55%) and the county quarterly exam (ACE assessment--5%).
Summatives (55%) are given to evaluate proficiency over several different content standards.
Summatives can be reassessed ONE time within one week of when the grade is posted in Parent Portal.
Students who score a 90% or above are not eligible for reassessment.
A grade of 90% is the highest score a student may receive on a reassessment.
Reassessment requests are to be made through email or verbally to Ms. Downard.
Review/practice must be completed prior to reassessing. Depending on the assessment, this may require students to come to school before or after school.
Reassessments may need to be completed before or after school.
ACE Benchmark (5%) --The 9-weeks Common District Assessment (ACE assessment) cannot be reassessed.
Formatives and Daily Grades (40%) are given to evaluate progress over a few content standards in order to determine if a student is on track to showing mastery.
Formatives cannot be reassessed.
*I do accept late/missing work. It is my goal that your student show me his or her understanding of ELA concepts rather than punish him or her for forgetfulness or allow him or her to accept a 0. All late/missing work must be submitted by the 9-weeks Progress Report for that 9-weeks term. I will not accept late work for the term once we have taken the 9-weeks assessment.
**A score of 0 or M (missing) means there was no evidence to assess student mastery of the standard; therefore, no score could be generated. No missing score is ever permanent unless the student provides to fail evidence towards the standard.
