Ameesha Butler is a passionate and dynamic third-grade teacher, representing Westmont Elementary. Due to the school currently being rebuilt, Ms. Butler is currently teaching at Martinez Elementary.
Ms. Butler teaches content across several subject areas to include math, science, reading, writing, and social studies.
Ms. Butler is a proud "Triple-Jag," having graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education, Master of Education in Instruction degree, and an Educational Specialist in Advanced Educational Studies degree, all from Augusta University.
Ms. Butler is passionate about education and making a difference through impacting every student that she comes into contact with.
Marisol Garcia-Mitchell currently teaches Spanish for levels one and three at Greenbrier High. Ms. Garcia-Mitchell attended Augusta State University and earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Foreign Language Education in 2011. As a student, Ms. Garcia-Mitchell was awarded the Student Teacher of the Year by the Georgia Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP) for 2011-2012. She taught Spanish at Butler High School in Richmond County for five years, where she was named the school Teacher of the Year for the 2018-2019 school year, and also served as the Sophomore, Junior, and Senior Class Sponsor.
Ms. Garcia-Mitchell was selected as a SMART Mentor for new teachers in Richmond County from 2016-2018. She also became the Vice-President of the Richmond County Association of Educators (RCAE) from 2017-2019. In 2017, she attended the National Education Association (NEA) Convention as a Representative for RCAE in Boston.
In 2019, Ms. Garcia-Mitchell transferred to Greenbrier High and began sponsoring the Multicultural Club which educates students about other cultures. In 2020, Ms. Garcia-Mitchell organized and presented her first Live Black History Program with the support of club members, teachers, parents, and administrators. The same year, Ms. Garcia-Mitchell was selected as Teacher of the Quarter. In 2021, Ms. Garcia-Mitchell led the school's first Virtual Black History Program. In 2022, she was selected as the Spring Teacher of the Quarter, and the 2022-2023 Teacher of the Year. In May 2022, she was selected as “The Most Influential Teacher” by a former Butler High School student.
Nora Goolsby has been an educator for 11 years, and is currently a first-grade teacher at Riverside Elementary, where she has taught for the past three years.
Ms. Goolsby received her Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education from Lander University in 2011. Her first two years were spent teaching in South Carolina, and for the last nine years in Columbia County.
Throughout her career, Ms. Goolsby has taught pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, first grade, second grade, and even special education. She has a passion for creating a love for school in the youngest of learners through creative classroom environments that encourage positive relationships, creativity, and achieving rigorous goals.
Ms. Goolsby is a Google for Education Certified Trainer, which allows her to provide support and training for her colleagues to help build confidence in their use of technology in their own classrooms. Ms. Goolsby has served as a classroom mentor to eight student teachers and two new teachers. She is a member of the Digital Learning Team and serves as Riverside Elementary's website administrator.
Laura Griffin is a third-year teacher. This school year, she is teaching chemistry to 10th, 11th, and 12th-grade students at Harlem High.
Ms. Griffin has served as the lead teacher for the school's chemistry team and Honors Night Committee.
After graduating from Lakeside High School in 2013, Ms. Griffin attended the University of Georgia where she was accepted into the honors program. Ms. Griffin graduated in 2018 with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, a Bachelor of Science in Science Education, and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish.
During Ms. Griffin's time as a student at the University of Georgia, she worked with the Athens Latino Center as a volunteer educator and earned the Volunteer Educator of the Year award for the 2016-2017 school year. After graduating, Ms. Griffin was awarded a prestigious Fulbright Scholarship through the U.S. State Department to teach English abroad and promote cultural diplomacy between the United States and Spain. From 2018 to 2019, she lived in Madrid, Spain, and worked as an English Teaching Assistant, working with students in 6th to 12th-grades to help them improve their English fluency and learn about U.S. culture.
Ms. Griffin considers herself a lifelong learner and in December of 2022, she expects to become a "double dawg," as she is on track to graduate from the University of Georgia again with a Master of Education in Science Education and Gifted endorsement.
Desiree Hinton holds a Bachelor of Science degree in General Studies, a Masters of Education in Instructional Technology degree, and an Education Specialist in Instructional Technology degree all from Georgia Southern University.
After earning her Bachelor Degree, Ms. Hinton began her teaching career as a special education teacher while working to earn her teaching certification through the Georgia Teacher Academy for Preparation and Pedagogy (GaTAPP).
Ms. Hinton has taught grades six through twelve in various classroom settings including co-teaching in a special education inclusion classroom, special education resource classes, and general education classes.
Currently, Ms. Hinton teaches seventh grade math at Harlem Middle. She has served on various school improvement teams and committees including serving as the seventh grade level chair, leadership team member, Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports team member, Academic Recovery Program coordinator, and serves as a first-year teacher mentor.
