What's Going on in the BPE LC?
March is Women's History Month- Architect Jane Drew
In Learning Commons Encore we learned about famous architect Jane Drew in honor of Women's History Month! After learning about Mrs. Drew and her designs, we tried our hand at the design process. Using our MakerSpace supplies, we emulated Jane Drew's designs that ranged from playgrounds, schools, universities and even an entire city in India!

Spring 2023
We have been working on our Leprechaun traps in LC Encore and have had some big events!
The first was Read Across America Week! Each day we had a reading challenge that went along with dress up days. We finished the week off with the beloved Book Character Parade!
We then had a wonderful visit with GTHS alum and current NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP winning UGA dawg Marcus Washington Jr. We were so impressed with Marcus and his story! He inspired our students with his drive, respect, advice and commitment to his family and his team! We are so proud of Marcus and can't wait to watch his football career unfold. GO DAWGS!
Finally, next week is THE ROYAL BOOK FAIR! We will be transforming the Learning Commons into a middle age castle!

Winter 2023
Circuits with 2nd Grade
Our 2nd graders have been highly anticipating their introduction to Snap Circuits and they are doing an incredible job! We introduced circuit basics with demonstrations and this Brain Pop video. Way to go 2nd grade!
Bridges with Kindergarten and 1st Grade
We are beginning a series of building challenges with our Kindergarten and first grade students in the Learning Commons. Our first challenge is...building a bridge! The students are working together in groups to utilize our MakerSpace supplies to build and test successful bridges. We read the book "Twenty-One Elephants and Still Standing" By April Jones Prince. This book is about the construction of the Brooklyn Bridge and when P.T. Barnum marched 21 elephants and 17 camels across the bridge to prove it's steadiness. Check out their awesome designs-

We have hit the ground running in this new school year in the BPE LC!
We had orientation or shared the orientation video with all of our students, reminding them of our rules and expectations.
All of our Kindergarten students have checked out their first library books! They are doing an excellent job.
We purchased some new centers for our MAKERspace & we are gearing up for our Book Character pumpkin decorating contest! BPE LOVES TO READ!
Welcome to the STAR LAB!
The last two and a half weeks of school in the Learning Commons were spent in the Digital STARLAB! Our BPE Eagles spent time adventuring on the moon, learning all about it's historical visits from Earth and then we BLASTED off to Mercury and took a tour of our solar system from the Sun to the distant dwarf planets. We also spent time learning about the Northern Lights, Light Pollution, we visited the Belize Barrier Reef and even got an up close and personal view of giraffes at the zoo!! We had a blast and it was the perfect way to wrap up another wonderful year in the BPE LC!
