Greetings! My name is Ashley Mills, and I am excited to be joining the GTHS Warrior family this year! This is my 5th school year in Columbia County, and this year I am thrilled to be teaching Geometry, Forensic Science, Environmental Science, and also assisting with coaching the GTHS Lady Warriors basketball program.
I am originally from Greenville, SC, but I grew up in Fullerton, CA. I attended the University of South Carolina (GO GAMECOCKS), where I double majored in Secondary Education English and History, and I minored in Special Education. I later got my Master's degree in Business Management with a concentration in Finance from Strayer University. I am the mom of 3 wonderful humans (one of them a GTHS alum), and the other 2 current Columbia County students; a rescue pitbull, and a tabby cat.
I began my educational career at the university level in 2007, working with adult learners who were working towards their associate, bachelor's, or master's degrees. Transitioning to secondary education has been such a rewarding experience, and my heart is truly for the high school-aged students as I take pride in helping students not just matriculate through their educational journeys, but also prepare them for life beyond the K-12 years. I specialize in special education in inclusive settings, and working with students who are not native English speakers to develop their English language proficiency, enabling them to succeed in any content area classroom.
I love motivating my students, making learning an enjoyable experience, and helping them see the importance of their education. I always aim to make my classroom environment a safe place and allow my students to express themselves and take risks, so that they can build confidence and improve their content-related skills. I work hard to build a rapport with each student by relating back to my own struggles in math and science, and using those trials to tailor how I teach today's learners. I strive to show students ways that they will use math and science every day of their lives, for the rest of their lives, in some way!
