Why should you take Statistics?

Statistics is much more than making graphs and calculating mean, median, and mode. Rather, it is using data to evaluate claims and make predictions. For example:

• Does consuming caffeine affect your pulse rate?

• Do characteristics of an interviewer affect the responses to a survey?

• Does seat location affect performance in math class?

It is a fresh start! This isn't a typical math class. You won't need to factor a polynomial or prove triangles are congruent. You will, however, need good communication and critical thinking skills.

It is great preparation for college! The skills you learn will help you in a variety of majors. You will never ask, "When will I ever use this?" Activities, examples, and exercises are based on real-world studies in a variety of fields. You will learn to think critically and ask questions about data that bombards each of us on a daily basis.
