Profile

Hello, I'm Jerome M. Hipolito. I am an Associate Professor II and the International Relations Officer at Central Bicol State University of Agriculture-Calabanga, a public university in the Philippines. I also chair the Bachelor of Secondary Education program. My academic journey began at Ateneo de Naga University, where I earned my Bachelor of Arts-Bachelor of Secondary Education major in English in 2009. I continued my studies at the same university, obtaining a Master of Arts in Education, major in English Language Teaching, in 2015.

Since 2010, I've been dedicated to teaching language and literature courses. This profession challenges me to ensure my students grasp the content and the pedagogy necessary to become effective teachers. Beyond the classroom, I am an avid reader, particularly of works by Filipino authors. I also enjoy watching local art films, listening to bands like Eheads, Asin, and The Beatles, writing Bikol poetry and fiction, collecting paintings by local artists, and spending time at coffee shops in the nearby city.

I actively participate in several literary and arts organizations, including Parasurat Bikolnon (PB), Kabulig Bikol, The Writers Project (TWP), and Albay Arts Foundation. My editorial work includes serving as a language and content editor for the Department of Education's learning modules from 2018 to 2019 and as a Bikol translator and editor for the Let’s Read Philippines program by the Asian Foundation and USAID from 2019 to 2020.

I was a fellow at the 58th UP National Writers Workshop in 2019 and the 12th Ateneo National Writers Workshop in 2014. Since 2014, I've been running my hometown's annual CBSUA Writers Workshop and the San Miguel Bay Writers Workshop.

During the pandemic, I launched the webinar series "Wandering Words Wandering World," which facilitated literary conversations with fellow writers and educators in 2020.

My published works include "Dyurnal Intris" (2021), published by Ateneo de Naga University Press,  "Padangat" (2020), published by the Parasurat Bikolnon Series,  "Lobo" (2012), published by Salabay Press and Bicol University College of Arts and Letters (BUCAL), and "Oda sa Tadik" (2010), under the Ubod Series by National Commission for Culture and the Arts.

I was awarded the Valledor Award for Bikol Novel Vincitori Ex Aequo in 2019 for my novel "Dyurnal Intris" and the Premio Tomas para sa Literaturang Bikolnon for my poetry collection "Pagbunag nin Paroy asin iba pan rawitdawit" in 2008.

In recognition of my contributions to local culture and the arts, the Local Government of Calabanga honored me with the Gawad Parangal sa Alagad ng Sining in 2020.
