AP/Honors Information 2023-24
Cazenovia High School Scheduling Advanced Placement (AP) / Honors Selection Process 2024-25
All student recommendations will be reviewed at the end of 2023-24 school year to determine if the set criteria for a specific course is still being met and that the placement in that course is still considered to be valid. If changes in placement are needed to be made, teachers will contact students and parents.
CAREER & TECHNICAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT
AP Computer Science A
Successful completion of Intro to Computer Programming or equivalent demonstrated competency as approved by AP Computer Science Teacher
Teacher recommendation based upon previous CTE class participation, classroom citizenship, work ethic, and demonstrated interest in computer programming.
All students enrolled must take the AP Computer Science A exam in May
ENGLISH DEPARTMENT
English 9H Requirements
Committee recommendation based upon academic achievement, class participation, classroom citizenship, work ethic, and demonstrated interest in English (text analysis and writing)
Academic achievement during Q1 & Q2 in English 8
Summative scores from Q1 & Q2 in English 8
Review of STAR/reading scores
Performance on 9-Honors English screening exam that will be administered on both Wednesday, February 28th, and Thursday, February 29th, in Mrs. Chiarello’s Room 206; students should select ONE testing session to attend.
Review of student application
Applications will be distributed the week of February 12th, 2024, and will be due at screening exam session.
The application will clarify the expectations for Honors/AP classes and will require both student and parent signatures.
Applications will be available from the 8th grade English teacher.

Global Studies & Geography I Honors Requirements
Recommendation of 8th grade Social Studies teacher, based on academic achievement, class participation, classroom citizenship, demonstrated interest in history and work ethic.
Overall achievement during Q1 & Q2 in Social Studies 8 with a minimum average of 85%. Note: Selections are made in early March, so only grades from the first two quarters may be incorporated.
Achievement on unit exams during Q1 & Q2 of Social Studies 8.
Review of STAR/reading scores.
Students selected for Global Studies & Geography I Honors must complete a summer project, due on the first day of class in September, for final enrollment.
Students interested in Global History & Geography I Honors must complete an application.
