Grade 7
Dear 7th grade parents and guardians:
Welcome back to a new school year!! We are all very excited for this year! We would like to take a moment to introduce ourselves and let you know some important information for 7th grade.
English - Mrs. Karyn Scanlon; kscanlon@caz.cnyric.org
Students will continue to work on and improve the skills they have developed throughout their middle school years. This includes analyzing text from a variety of genres, including short stories, nonfiction, and poetry. We will also continue to work on our writing skills, starting with writing a realistic fiction short story.
French - Madame Renée Foisy Kleiner; rkleiner@caz.cnyric.org
Proficiency – the ability to communicate all in French – is the focus! NY State is implementing New World Language Standards where we start units with authentic materials, as the classroom becomes a mini French speaking country. At year-end, all students who pass the “Checkpoint A” assessment satisfy their first NYS Regents Diploma requirement, and more excitingly, can be confident in the French speaking world!
Math - Mr. Connor Carroll; ccarroll@caz.cnyric.org
In Math this year, students will be learning foundational skills and strategies that will help them as they prepare to learn in the high school environment. We will also start to learn strategies for using a calculator as the year goes on so students can have a strong grasp of best practices when using technology in the classroom. Students will need their workbook, notebook, planner, pencil, and calculator each day.
Science - Mrs. Kristin Reichert; kreichert@caz.cnyric.org
This year’s focus will be hands-on science and incorporating problem solving skills as they pertain to the living world! We will cover cells, microscopes, human body, genetics, evolution, and ecology.
