- a General Guide for Patient and Public Involvement
#NothingAboutUsWithoutUs
According to the World Health Organization, patient empowerment is defined as 'a process through which people gain greater control over decisions and actions affecting their health'. Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) is even a key theme within global health and social care strategies.
Some researchers and fellow patient advocates think that the term "patient empowerment" is a bit misleading. If someone has the power to empower patients, they may also have the power to disempower them. It may be better to actually provide patients and caregivers with resources and opportunities, so that they can empower themselves (this is also called "agency").
On this page, we want to give you an overview and resources that will help you discover various opportunities.
Empower yourself and others!
