BRAIINS Summer school
AI is no longer the stuff of the future, although there's still an inadequate degree of awareness about it at all levels. Artificial Intelligence in Education is a pivotal point in 21st century knowledge information society. However the topic is not explicitly taught in most of our schools and doesn't find an appropriate place in curricula yet. To prepare an adequate digital literacy, avoid an increasing digital divide and ensure equal opportunities to everyone, educators need to understand how AI technologies can be utilised to facilitate learning, accelerate inclusion, solve real-world problems and how teaching can and should change accordingly.
Target - The course is targeting Teachers at secondary level, both current and trainee teachers – including Teacher Students – and Teacher Trainers. from any subject.
Number of participants - Max. 20.
Course objectives - The course aims at
providing recent insights on AI in Education.
developing awareness of the interdisciplinary potential of new tools and approaches in AI.
inspiring innovation in didactical practice and curricula.
learning to enhance students' creativity and innovation capability.
improving the abilities to work collaboratively and exchange best practices in transnational groups.

Course content -The course will contain the following modules:
AI in Society: How does a machine work? Ethical issues, risks and opportunities.
Data is Life: A new vision for Data Science and Statistics in Education as a 360° interdisciplinary tool.
CreAItivity: AI in Arts and Literature, AI to empower students and teachers with creative tools
Humanoids and social robots in Education and Society.
Setting up an HackAIthon and other outreach activities on AI .
Program – Draft program
Cultural events – optional activities will be offered in the evenings and at the weekend (i.e. visit to art city, hiking tour to Mount Cimone GAW Global Station, traditional St. Bartholomew’s feast by torch light in the ancient hamlet of Fiumalbo). A fee may be required.
Course approach - The Summer School will offer a thorough insight on how AI can provide a new perspective and new opportunities in Education. Participants will be directly and actively involved in the workshops covering a wide variety of subjects and curricular areas with best practices examples, They will discuss results and implementation issues in groups with the help of the tutors. They will test a wide variety of free tools for data science, text mining, humanoid robots , digital art, etc. They will discuss didactical impact, as well as how, and where, to significantly embed these aspects into the curriculum. Coding sessions, seminars, field trips and even how to set up an hackathon about AI outreach will complete the program.
Being a “teachers to teachers” initiative the course is highly practical and particular care has been put to ensure immediate reproducibility.
The participants will have access to already tested best practices equipped with a whole batch of free didactical resources (background reading, student worksheets, teachers guide, webinar recordings, etc…) .
Participants coming from different countries will benefit from the international environment. Networking and exchange of best practices will be explicitly favoured during the course.
Detailed information regarding the programme of the course, methodology and preparation will be sent to the selected applicants.
Language- the language of the course is English
Certificate - All participants on request will get an Europass Mobility document along with a certificate on completion of the course.
Follow up - All applicants will be invited to join BRAIINS virtual community (eTwinnning and Facebook) where they will be offered both continuous support and the possibility of an intense networking before, during and after the course.
Jobshadowing opportunities will be offered to a selected number of participants in BRAIINS partner schools.
Course fee - The course is free. However, according to the developement of the actual international crisis and related unpredictable increase in prices a contribute fee may be requested for the optional cultural visits and field trips of the week. A motivation letter will be requested to all applicants and will be used for selection (see "Deadlines" below).
Location -The summer school organized by BRAIINS project coordinating school IIS Cavazzi Pavullo (IT), will take place in in Pavullo Italy, in the beautiful landscape of the Appenine Mountains at the border with Tuscany.
Accomodation & Travelling - Accomodation and travelling costs are NOT covered by the summer school organization. Accomodation and travel will have to be found and settled directly by the participants. The organization will offer support in setting up contact with local hotels and B&Bs and assist for the entire period of the accommodation.

N.B. The summer school will take place only with a minimum number of participants (15).
