Patron Policy

Our school library is open to all students and staff of the Cavalier Public School District from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. when school is in session. Materials may also be shared with librarians in neighboring schools. Those librarians are responsible for the safety and return of the material.

Students and staff may use the library for research, recreation, and information. To ensure that all students and staff in the district have access to equally effective library media programs,

  • The library provides physical access to resources for students with special needs.
  • It is clearly understood that the school library belongs to everyone on campus.
  • The library media specialist assists students and teachers in finding and using information, including print, non-print, and electronic media.
  • Computers are available for use by students and staff. Each user must follow the Acceptable Use Policy established by our school.

Staff Checkout

Faculty may check out unlimited numbers of materials as long as needed. Periodicals, audio visual materials, and equipment must be signed out at the circulation desk, if taken outside the library media center. Items should be returned after use so that others may use them.

Reference Materials

Reference materials are to be used by students in the library media center. Teachers may check out reference materials for use in the classroom when necessary.

Professional Collection

Professional collection may be checked out by staff with unlimited usage but should be returned after use so that others may use them. This collection covers most curricular areas.

Overdue Materials

Overdue notices will be printed out and distributed to students at school monthly to ensure books will be returned in a timely manner and to help remind students about books that need to be returned to the library. Students may check out one additional book until they have returned any overdue books. Students may not exceed three books checked out at one time. There are no fines for overdue books.

Lost and Damaged Books

If a book is lost or damaged, the book must be paid for before additional books can be checked out. The replacement cost of the book is quoted on the overdue notice. Payment for a lost book is reimbursed should the book be found and returned in good condition. Students who owe money to the library lose their privilege for borrowing more materials and will not receive their final report card. Any items checked out at the time a student withdraws from school must be returned or paid for upon withdrawal.

Behavior Policy

Appropriate behavior and respect for staff, faculty, and other students is expected from students while using the library.
