Discussions regarding the cancellation of the annual Turkey Day game against Northampton commenced at the school board meeting on April 8. The school board, after hearing the thoughts of many that attended the meeting, decided to table the decision for the time being. The CASD School Board will decide the future of the game at the next school board meeting on May 6.
The Brown and White surveyed the students at CHS to get their feelings on the potential removal of Turkey Day. The comments and results below were collected from the 105 students that responded to the survey.
"The Turkey Day game is a foundation for so many of our traditions. The pep rally happens because of it, as does Hall Decorating and Spirit Day. If Turkey Day disappears, so does a lot of our tradition and school spirit. I haven't been able to make the Turkey Day games, but they've always been a part of my life, and it's something huge to look forward to in the fall."

"Northampton as a school has gotten too big, so it is unfair or could be considered dangerous for Catasauqua to go against them. Maybe we could continue this tradition with a smaller school."

"I do believe the game should continue. I love partaking in it, but I always get let down when we lose. My suggestion is that we keep the game, but we change the team. It would provide the opportunity for tradition, as well as giving us hope for a win. As for which team, I’m unsure, but I like the idea."
"Turkey Day is a good tradition, but there’s a big difference between a 6A school and a 2A school. You can tell while watching the game."

"I think the Turkey Day game should stay. It’s a tradition that has been going for 100 years. It brings the community together every year to cheer on our football team, whether we lose or win. It’s a very big rivalry between us and Northampton and losing the past couple years doesn’t really mean anything. It’s about the community coming out to support the players that are a part of this tradition. I think canceling it would be unfair for the juniors right now. I also don’t think people realize that the pep rally would probably not be held anymore either, because we wouldn’t have anything to celebrate." _____________________________________________________
"I think that after 100 years, players should be given the time to rest after the grueling football season ends. Besides, the game has turned into an exhibition where parents try to live out their glory days vicariously through their children."
