Catasauqua High School's weight room was recently refurbished this past year, and there are many new features in the weight room that CHS students can enjoy daily. The original weight room was finished along with the building in early 2005. It officially opened to the students in September 2005.
The original weight room had an abundance of equipment such as a smith machine, leg-press, squat-tracks, benches, and a variety of dumb bells and exercise equipment like treadmills and bands, for a more diverse workout for anyone who wanted to workout.
CHS assistant principal and head football coach Joe Henrich contributed feedback for the design of the weight room.
"Pretty much everything has changed,” said Henrich. "We gutted everything and the thought behind it was to create a more functional space and newer methods of training. I’m a really big fan of the new rack set ups because of its multi-purpose qualities.”
Now more than ever, teams are scheduling sessions for their athletes to utilize the new weight room.
“The weight room brings us closer together,” said the senior cheerleader Alivia Kurczewski. "Bonding is big in the weight room because we work together in groups and it helps us with our stunts.”
The weight room isn't just accessible to the athletes. CHS teacher Marc Snyder opens the weight room from 2:45 to 4 p.m. from Monday through Thursday. If the room is unavailable or closed on any particular day, notification will be sent via email. Any questions can be directed to Snyder at snyderm@cattysd.org.
