Book checkout:
Students will be allowed to check books out of the library each time they visit. Students may have up to four books on their account at a time. Once the checkout limit is reached, books must be returned before new ones may be checked out. Arrangements will be made for students who continually do not return or lose their books to keep their library books in school so that they may continue to check out books. Parents will be advised of this change via ParentSquare message and a note. Arrangements can be adjusted by contacting Mx. Landon.
Books are overdue after two weeks. Students will receive overdue notices monthly and reminders about overdues during their library time. Students may renew for another two weeks. Continual renewals will be decided on a case-by-case basis. Students may renew at their scheduled library time, during an open library time, through their online account, or by sending a message to Mx. Landon through their Google classroom.
Book checkouts per visit:
Pre-K Students - 1 book
K Students - Sep-Dec - 1 book; Jan-May - 2 books
Grade 1 Students - 2 books
Grade 2 Students - 3 books
Grade 3 - 6 Students - 4 books
Pre-K and Kindergarten students will start the year keeping books in the classroom to practice their check out and return skills.
As part of library instruction, Grades 3–6 are expected to check out at least one item per month. This keeps reading material on hand and reinforces their library skills. This is intentionally low-stakes; any checkout counts, including renewing a current book.
If books are ever damaged or lost, please contact Mx. Landon. Replacements of the same or similar book in new or gently used condition are always appreciated but are not required.
All books are due by two weeks before the last day of school.
These procedures describe how our library runs day to day, and are designed to align with Cato-Meridian's Board of Education policies. The Board sets and updates official district policy. For the most current official policies, please contact the district office.
Additional library-specific procedures will be added here as the need arises.
