Many AP courses replace core graduation requirements. Below is a list of AP courses that can replace core academic requirements for graduation. Some AP courses also have pre-requisites (courses that need to be taken successfully before enrolling in that AP course), and those are noted below with an asterisk.
English
4 required English courses: English I, II, III, & IV
English III = AP English Language & Composition
English IV = AP English Literature & Composition
*English I and II are pre-requisites for both AP English AP courses.
*English III or AP Lang is a pre-requisite for AP Literature.
Social Studies
4 required social studies: World History, Civics, American History, Economics & Personal Finance
Civics = AP Government & Politics
American History = AP US History
World History = AP World History
*English II is a pre-requisite for AP US History and AP World History.
Science
3 required science: Earth & Environmental, Biology, & a physical science (chemistry or physical science)
Earth & Environmental = AP Earth & Environmental
*Biology and Chemistry are prerequisites for AP Earth & Environmental.
*Biology II is a pre-requisite for AP Biology. (Students take Honors Bio II in the fall and then AP Bio in the spring.)
*Chemistry II is a pre-requisite for AP Chemistry. (Students take Honors Chem II in the fall and then AP Chem in the spring.)
Math
4 required math: Math 1, 2, 3, & a 4th math
AP courses do not replace these required math courses but can help fulfill the fourth math.
*Math 3 is a pre-requisite for AP Pre-calculus.
*Honors Topics in Calculus is a pre-requisite for AP Calculus. (Students take Honors Topics in the fall and then AP Calculus in the spring.)
*Math 4 is a pre-requisite for AP Statistics. (Students can take Honors Math 4 in the fall and AP Stats in the spring.)
