Catalyst understands that this will be a challenging and complicated time for our scholars and families. In order to assist with ensuring efficiency with the implementation of our remote learning plan, we have identified a few guidelines to assist:
Create a daily routine/schedule so your scholars always know when it will be time to focus on learning.
Have your scholars set academic and social & emotional goals prior to engaging in the learning process.
Determine the time when your scholar is best able to focus. For some scholars, this is the first thing in the morning and for others, it is in the afternoon.
Ensure your scholar is receiving adequate sleep and is well-rested when they begin their school work.
Keep device screens within your view and monitor screens anytime scholars are working online to ensure they are actively engaged in the digital school work and resources provided.
Provide your scholar with frequent encouragement and reminders as needed.
Find the workspace where your scholar works best. For some scholars, it is sitting in their favorite spot on the couch and for others, it may be standing at the kitchen table.
Allow your scholar to take a movement or sensory break per grade level at regular intervals.
Once your scholar is done working for the day, ask them to reflect. Ex. What was your favorite part of the day? What did you learn/accomplish today? How did it make you feel? What did you find challenging today? What will you do differently tomorrow?
Know that we will be working diligently to respond to the questions and needs of our families. As always, we are here to support you during this difficult time.
