Learning Objectives

Objectives: The purpose of the TXRL Leadership Convening is to provide space, experience, and a collective brain trust for the TXRL leadership/ vertical team to:

• Manage Complex Change Across the District System. Explore strategies for managing complex change across organizational systems in consideration of making and effectively communicating a district-wide shift to structured literacy.

• Clarify Vision of Success. Explore the TXRL cohort outcomes and internalize this vision of success for structured literacy at scale in their district.

• Align & Integrate Key Components for Structured Literacy. Identify the key work needed to align and integrate vision (mindsets & behaviors), skills, incentives, and resources to support structured literacy implementation across the district.

• Address Common Roadblocks & Share Early Solutions. Engage in discussions with other cohort districts about common roadblocks encountered with structured literacy implementation, and share strategies and ideas for overcoming challenges. 

• Build Coherence in Educator Development (Skills). Evaluate opportunities to build coherence in educator development efforts, aligning professional development and coaching systems with structured literacy implementation and TXRL outcomes. 

• Shift Incentives to Drive Reading Outcomes. Analyze current motivational practices and performance incentives related to K-3 reading outcomes and explore ways to adjust or introduce new incentives to increase the likelihood of meeting TXRL SMART goal targets.

• TXRL Action Plan Understanding. Explore and make connections to the action plan TXRL districts will develop to manage the complex systems shifts necessary to effectively implement structured literacy and achieve TXRL SMART Goals (Note: This plan will be submitted in May 2025 for consideration of TXRL grant funds.)
